We live in a time where it seems that many young ministers (and some not so young), secretly desire to become the next “big minister”. We are easily marveled by the “popular” preachers, worshippers and ministries of our generation and cannot help but desire their successful ministries. Whether it’s becoming “more relevant”, wearing non-prescription glasses with trendy clothing and posting them Instagram, or engaging people with charismatic (and sometimes non-confronting) leadership. It appears to me that so many may have lost sight of Jesus’ blueprint for living life here on earth.

I’d like to pose an honest question: “Do you look towards these now famous men/women of God and see their ministries as the ultimate goal for yours?”

I invite you to take this time to ask God to search you concerning this question, and to help you be honest with yourself. Don’t continue reading until He responds (and I mean that, because He will).

Understand this, God has already blessed so many of us “smaller scale” ministers with His presence, anointing and creativity to organize and lead powerful ministries.

We don’t need popularity. Popularity is not what motivated Christ. The desire to do the Father’s will, and His submission to Him is what propelled Him.

This is the Blueprint He left us!

Three times in the book of John, Jesus demonstrates how we, as Christians should live:

1 John 5:19 - Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the father doing. Whatever the father does, the son does also.”

2 John 8:26 - “I have much to say about you and much to condemn, but I won’t. For I say only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is completely truthful.”

3 John 12:49 - “I don’t speak on my own authority. The father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.”

Jesus’ blueprint was set: To DO ONLY, To SAY ONLY, To SPEAK WHEN and To SAY IT HOW… The Father would!

If we are saved by the grace of God and Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and if we are redeemed by the resurrection of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, then we can no longer allow ourselves to think that we can actually lead ourselves without His guidance. We must stop following our own lead. We need to once again hear from God and not do, say, or speak until He says so.

The problem is this, I’m not sure if believers today actually believe God when it comes to these scriptures. The sacrifice of Jesus granted us the gift to become sons of God and co-heirs with Christ, meaning that the same way Jesus interacted with “Abba” is the same exact way that we can interact with Him.

Beloved, please understand that this is part of his grace over us! We don’t deserve salvation, redemption and much less do we deserve a relationship. Yet God our Father has sought us out to give us just that, so that on earth we can live life like Jesus did: Seeing and doing ONLY what we see the Father doing. Hearing and saying ONLY what He hears the Father saying. Speaking ONLY when He tells us to, and Saying it how He wants us to say it. Is that not what our greatest desire is after all…To be pleasing in His sight and walking according to His will?

Know this: God cannot just be a subject we simply learn and teach of. From this day forward, we MUST lean on Him as our dad, lean on His Holy Spirit, and lean on Jesus for every single area of our lives and ministries. This is the blueprint He has established; this is His will.
